Artist living in Vancouver area of British Columbia
Shortly after graduating from U.B.C. with an Elementary Teaching degree, I along with my husband, relocated to Port Alice on Northern Vancouver Island. While living and teaching there I joined an oil painting class and found that creating art was to be my passion. I believe Port Alice hospital still has one of my paintings hanging, a fishing boat. We lived there for two years and once back and living in Vancouver, I continued painting with oils until my children were born and oil painting just didn't fit into the schedule along with diapers and feeding times. Once my sons were out of elementary school, and I was also back teaching, I wanted to resume painting. I signed up for a watercolour class with Cynthia Nugent and wow, what a challenge! I discovered that, even though I had painted before, watercolour techniques were NOTHING like oil painting. Since then, I have taken a couple of workshops to improve my skills but, for the most part, I am self-taught. I have attempted to paint in a less detailed form, but have not been successful. I seem to need to "put that last seed in the watermelon" in my painting.Once our children were in university we bought and equipped a sailboat for an off-shore lifestyle. We left from Vancouver, sailed to Mexico (after stops in the U.S.A.), then on through Central America, Ecuador, the Panama Canal, Colombia, Guatemala, Belize, and finished up in Florida. This took us several years, interrupted by life, grandchildren being born, and my husband's desire to continue working off and on. These travels, and travels elsewhere in the world, have greatly influenced my art. I hope my paintings will inspire you to travel or that, perhaps, one of my painting will transport you back to a place you also have enjoyed.
